Over the past 10 years that I've run dogs, this it the 7th time we've been able to get on sleds Thanksgiving weekend. It's not great out there yet and I'm the only one in my neighborhood on sleds, but it's doable. It's really just the first couple miles that are nerve wracking; it's really bumpy, there's lots of traffic (even cars and trucks that drive down the trail), tons of moose and blind hills that would be impossible to stop once we're started down and there's frequently something or someone in the trail. Kind of scary. Today, however, no one. I opted for only running 10 dogs so i would have some semblance of control if I did run into something in those first few miles. By the time I was a mile from the house I wanted to turn around and go back and get the other 5 dogs. Could have easily used all the dog power out there today. The crew I had worked hard. Tomorrow we'll go out again, with everyone.
