Yes, we're still here....
Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I've
been really busy with the dogs and school. I still have time to post, but have
not taken the time to get some good pics of "my new" team. Instead of waiting
any longer for pics....
Yes, I still
plan on running Martin's puppy team in Iditarod 2008. They came home from the
glacier in early September and they've been here at the kennel and running with
me for 3 weeks now. There are 21 yearlings along with 3 older leaders (to help
get our feet under us). Since I can't run 24 dogs without having to do 2 runs a
day, Martin is graciously letting me keep 18 dogs here at a time. We're running
12 dog teams so if I run one team every day each dog gets a 2 day on; 1 day off
schedule. On weekends I usually run all the dogs so they get a few more runs
than that per week.
Outside of some
issues with head on passes of other teams (which these pups have never done)
they are doing awesome!! They are all work; fast; smart and full of themselves.
While they are the handful you'd expect from young dogs (just like teenage
kids), they are so eager to please and so much fun to work with. I'm having a
great time and I think the dogs are
too!!
